guten tag berlin - PART I

guten tag!! wanna write this post in german, but i only know guten tag and ich bin lim. we were flying on transavia airlines fr amsterdam to berlin. dun ask me the airfares. bearbear made the booking early on via internet. should be cheaper. but hey, transavia isnt a budget airlines cuz they provided us meals and drinks. the tuna sandwiches was yummy!!

we reached tegel airport at abt 11pm and took a bus to meininger city hostel. i was quite sleepy but i still remembered myself passing by the LV store. yeah, im so vain like that!!! and i remembered zoological garden *dunno wth its*. but to hav this zoological garden in the city is really, somewhat a lil bit weird. i love germany, a very organised country. the public transport is always on time. and each of the bus stop is equipped wiv digital notice boards to inform us the arrivals of buses.

generally, the germans are nice and polite. they hav a cute little man at each traffic light of pedestrian crossings to tell the pedestrians when to cross the road and when to stop. its a gentleman figure wearing hat which comes in two colors - green and red. i din take pic of it. but saw a lot of this man on souvenir items. the germans call him ampelmanchen.

we went for a free city tour organised by our hostel at unter de linden station. the germans call it u-bahn or s-bahn sthg for their subway, it was easy peasy to get there. btw, the germans were busy preparing xmas market. and the german xmas market is always a happening, so i was told.

outside the damaged tower.

first we went to branderburg gate, a gate symbolises berlin and germany. it has a long story behind it. but myself cant really remember tat. it's sthg abt napoleon, sthg abt paris, sthg abt east-west berlin. whatever lah, it's sthg like that lahhh....

at the brandenburger tor.

im sorry. im afraid i might hav to disappoint you again as i hav no idea what this park is for. sthg to do wiv adolf hitler and mass murder of the jews.

at holocaust memorial, the jewish memorial park

nothing interesting abt berlin wall. it's just some pieces of bricks. the berlin wall was built encircling the west berlin, thus separate berlin into two, the western europe and the eastern block. this wall was brought down in year 1989 and its fall symbolised the german reunification. thats it. dun ask me the details.

berlin wall at the back

this is another history of berlin wall. the united stated checkpoint at friedrichstrasse called charlie. the west berliners used to register themselves at this checkpoint before entering east berlin. now it became a tourist spot.

checkpoint charlie at the american sector.

look at this handsome guard. pay if you wanna take pic wiv him.

we din pay. so we got him hiding behind the flag.

touring around the humboldt university of berlin. albert einstein was one of the prof here.

berlin cathedral as the last checkpoint of our tour.
